A massive gas explosion tore through a house in Hemmingway, Worcestershire, leaving four people injured, including one in critical condition.
The blast struck around 5 p.m. on Tuesday in the Fairfield area residential estate. Firefighters, paramedics, and air ambulance crews swarmed the scene.
A man with serious injuries was rushed by air ambulance to Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Two others were taken to Hereford County Hospital, while a fourth was treated on-site.
The explosion demolished the house, collapsing its roof and covering the ground floor in debris. Police swiftly cordoned off the estate road and evacuated ten neighbouring properties as a precaution.
“On arrival, crews found a property badly damaged by the blast,” said a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman. “One man was seriously injured and airlifted to hospital with medics on board. A man and woman had less serious injuries and were taken to Hereford. Another man was treated as a precaution after damage to his home.”
West Mercia Police confirmed the incident and warned locals to stay clear while investigations and recovery continue.
“Emergency services were dispatched shortly after 5 p.m. One man remains critically injured in Birmingham hospital. Ten neighbouring homes have been evacuated. Road closures and police cordons are in place. Please avoid the area and thank you for your understanding,” said a police spokesperson.
