Southsea Curry Joint with Chandeliers Closes After 10 Months
A swanky Southsea curry house promising fine dining and plush vibes has shut its doors just ten months after opening. Jhilmil, on Osborne Road where Jewel in the Crown once stood, launched last summer with a £100,000 makeover. The refurbishment featured ornate chandeliers and an impressive hand-painted Taj Mahal mural.
£100K Refurbishment Can’t Save Repossession
The grand opening, even blessed by the Lord Mayor, wasn’t enough to keep Jhilmil afloat. Landlord’s notice on the door bluntly states: “The locks for the above premises have been changed for non-payment of the rent.” The cause? Non-payment of rent has forced repossession.
Fine Dining or Unpronounceable Menu?
It’s unclear if the promised ‘fine dining’ experience or the tricky-to-pronounce dishes scared off customers. Meanwhile, Osborne Road continues to thrive as a buzzing food hotspot offering global flavours.
