Raging fire tears through Sherrard Road shops
Fifteen fire engines and around 100 firefighters are currently fighting a fierce blaze engulfing a row of shops on Sherrard Road, Newham. The fire broke out in a mid-terraced shop with a flat above, spreading quickly to neighbouring units.
One man treated for smoke inhalation
Firefighters rushed to the scene after the alarm was raised at 10.24pm. One man has received treatment for smoke inhalation at the site, though no other injuries have been reported so far.
Major disruption as area taped off
Authorities are warning the public to steer clear of the area, especially the junction of Sherrard Road and Green Lane. The access road is heavily congested with emergency vehicles and traffic.
Fire crews from across London respond
Firefighters from stations including Stratford, Leytonstone, Plaistow, East Ham, Ilford, Barking, Dagenham, Walthamstow, Millwall, Homerton, Stoke Newington, Whitechapel, and Leyton are tackling the blaze. The situation remains active as crews battle to control the fire.
