Speedway fans gear up for SilverSki Fours showdown on Isle of Wight
Isle of Wight speedway supporters are buzzing after the announcement of the 2019 SilverSki four-team tournament, set to light up the island at the end of July. The event will feature the home team, the ‘Wightlink’ Warriors, alongside Plymouth, Mildenhall, and Kent. The tournament is the brainchild of Kent speedway boss Len Silver, who’s backing the competition through his SilverSki business.
Four rounds, four tracks, one epic contest
Each participating track will host a round of the tournament, which follows a popular sixteen-heat format that’s proven to thrill fans in the past. The timing couldn’t be better, with meetings scheduled over the school summer holidays, promising big crowds and fierce rivalry on the island.
Warriors ready to roar
‘Wightlink’ Warriors co-promoter Barry Bishop is rubbing his hands with excitement. He said, “I think these meetings have the potential to be amongst the best on our calendar and I would like to thank Len for including the Warriors in the tournament.”
Bishop added, “Supporters have already told me what a great idea this is, and I truly believe we’ll see four cracking meetings with our boys having a good chance of overall success.”
National League eyes SilverSki success
Jason Pipe, the newly appointed National League co-ordinator, will be keeping a keen eye on the competition’s progress. He revealed, “The National League will be reviving its four team tournament at Kings Lynn in early July, featuring all National League teams racing in semi-finals and a final.”
Pipe explained, “The SilverSki fours will take a different approach, with each track hosting a full meeting format. I’ll be looking closely at how well these meetings are supported.”
He concluded, “If they are as successful as I expect, it could pave the way for similar events across the National League in 2020. Good luck to the four sides involved!”
