Tragedy on M1: Elderly Man Killed by HGV Near Barnsley
A shocking fatal crash has rocked the M1 at junction 37. In the early hours of Saturday, 28 February, a white DAF Trucks HGV struck an elderly man on the southbound carriageway near Barnsley. The collision happened around 2:15am. Despite the rush of emergency crews, the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Police Hunt Witnesses and Next of Kin
South Yorkshire Police are working quickly to identify the victim and trace his family. They’re appealing to anyone who saw the man before the tragedy—whether on Dodworth Road or the M1 southbound slip road—to step forward.
“At 2.15am today, we were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a white DAF Trucks HGV and a pedestrian on the M1 southbound at junction 37. Unfortunately, the pedestrian, an elderly man, died at the scene despite best efforts.”
