Police in Dover have intensified efforts to address a surge in motorbike and moped thefts reported across the town between January and May 2026. The incidents have been recorded in areas including St Radigund’s, Whitfield, and Buckland. Offenders have also been caught riding mopeds without number plates and engaging in antisocial behaviour.

Authorities have responded with increased high-visibility patrols and proactive vehicle stops in key locations. These measures aim to disrupt theft and antisocial riding activities. Local partnerships are being engaged to tackle these concerns effectively and enhance community safety.

A number of arrests have been made in connection with these incidents. Among those charged are three boys aged between 14 and 17, who face charges over the theft of a Honda moped and a Kawasaki motorbike. They remain on bail with conditions ahead of their upcoming hearing at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court.

Chief Inspector Liz Cokayne-Delves commented on the situation, saying: “We understand the distress theft causes to owners and the community. We are committed to using robust enforcement and prosecution where necessary.” She also urged residents to report any suspicious activity promptly to assist police investigations.

To help prevent motorbike theft, police continue to conduct regular bail checks. They advise bike owners to secure their vehicles with locks, remove keys when not in use, and cover their bikes. For detailed advice on vehicle security, residents are encouraged to visit the Kent Police website.
