Disaster struck at Didcot A Power Station on Wednesday, February 24th, 2016, when the boiler room of the 10-storey building catastrophically collapsed. One demolition worker was tragically killed, and five others were injured after half of Boiler 1 gave way following a loud bang heard at 4.05pm.
Urban search and rescue specialists worked relentlessly through the night to locate three men trapped beneath the rubble. Firefighters quickly called in national rescue squads from Buckinghamshire, who brought sniffer dogs to detect signs of life amid the debris.
The collapse sent a massive dust cloud billowing across the surrounding area, forcing 50 local residents to seek treatment for breathing difficulties. In response, South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) declared a major incident and dispatched two air ambulances, six land ambulances, a rapid response vehicle, and a hazardous area response team.
Authorities continue their desperate search efforts as the community anxiously awaits news on the trapped workers. The emergency response remains in full swing, with specialist rescue teams and sniffer dogs deployed to aid in the operation.
