Sandown Beach Search Sparks Coastguard Operation – False Alarm!

Coastguard Search and Rescue teams on the Isle of Wight launched a full shoreline search at Sandown beach after a suspicious pile of clothing was spotted early Saturday morning.

Coastguard Called in After Clothing Found

The Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team sprang into action after the UK Coastguard Operations Centre received a call at around 10am, reporting the mysterious clothing heap. Volunteers combed the beach, fearing the worst.

False Alarm – Clothing Belonged to Night Swimmer

The search has now been called off. A coastguard spokesperson confirmed the clothes were left by a swimmer the previous night, putting safety fears to rest.

No emergency was involved, but the swift response highlights how seriously the Coastguard take any potential incident at sea or onshore.
