A tragic mid-air collision over Buckinghamshire on Friday, November 18th, has claimed four lives, including one of Britain’s top helicopter instructors. Emergency crews responded to the scene near Waddesdon Manor, close to Aylesbury, at 12:06 pm. However, foul weather is currently slowing the ongoing investigation.

Among the victims is Captain Mike Green, a respected aviation veteran with over 30 years of flying experience. Captain Green was a senior instructor with Helicopter Services and was widely regarded as a true gentleman of the skies who never took unnecessary risks. At the time of the crash, he was piloting a Guimbal G2 helicopter that had been registered on Valentine’s Day 2022 and was less than three months old.

An aviation source who wished to remain anonymous said, “It’s a terrible loss. Mike was one of the best and most experienced instructors we had. We are all in shock.”

The other aircraft involved in the collision was a Cessna 152 carrying student pilot Saavan Mundae, aged 18. Saavan was a student at Bucks New University, studying Air Transport with Commercial Pilot Training. He had only been flying for nine weeks. Fellow students described the news as heartbreaking.

One peer commented, “We are all gutted and cut up about it.”

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has dispatched teams to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. However, poor weather conditions at the crash site near Waddesdon are hampering their efforts. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
