Birmingham Mourns as Councillor Waseem Zaffar Dies Aged 44

Tragedy strikes Birmingham with the sudden death of Councillor Waseem Zaffar MBE, the Labour stalwart for Lozells, who has died aged just 44.

A True Community Champion

Born and bred in Lozells, Zaffar was a familiar face on Birmingham City Council since 2011. He was a fierce fighter for social justice, campaigning relentlessly for a cleaner environment and stronger community bonds. A devoted father of three boys and lifelong Aston Villa fan, Zaffar also held vital cabinet roles in transport, environment, and social cohesion.

His tireless work earned him an MBE for outstanding services to the voluntary sector, cementing his status as a local hero.

Birmingham City Council Pays Heartfelt Tribute

Council leader John Cotton took to X to express his grief, calling Zaffar “a passionate advocate of his community, a father, a husband, a young man with so much more to give.” Cotton sent his “heartfelt thoughts and prayers” to Zaffar’s family during this devastating time.
