Autistic Boy's Epic 133-Mile Firefighter Charity Cycle from Portsmouth to London
Andrew Impey, 11, from Cosham, Portsmouth, is smashing it with a massive 133-mile cycle ride. He’s visiting 29 fire stations en route to London, all to raise cash for the Fire Fighters Charity.
Young Hero’s Firefighter Mission
Andrew, who’s on the autistic spectrum, isn’t new to this. He’s already visited over 1,000 fire stations across the UK – including Hampshire, Sussex, Suffolk, and even abroad in Denmark, France, and New York. His fundraising efforts earned him an honorary spot in the New York Fire Department. Now, he wants to tick off every fire station in Britain.
From Struggle to Strength
“Two years ago I could not read or write, I had very poor social skills and I struggled to communicate with people I didn’t know,”
Andrew shared.
“Through my fire station journey and support from my new school, I’ve now learned to read and write. I’ve become outgoing and communicate well – especially with firefighters and support crews.”
Raising More Than Money
Andrew’s passion for fire crews goes beyond the ride. During his visits, he’s met firefighters injured on duty who benefited from The Fire Fighters Charity. This inspired him to fundraise and spread the word about autism and the vital role firefighters play – far beyond fighting fires.
