A serious crash involving two vehicles has resulted in the closure of the A12 southbound between Junction 16 (Galleywood Interchange) and Junction 15 (Webb’s Farm Interchange) in Essex this morning. The incident occurred during rush hour, causing significant disruption for commuters in the area.
Emergency teams from Essex Police, the East of England Ambulance Service, and Essex County Fire and Rescue Service responded promptly and remain at the scene managing the aftermath of the collision.
Motorists are advised to avoid the affected section of the A12 by exiting at Junction 19 (Boreham) and following the signed diversion route: take the A130 through Chelmsford, then at the A130/A1016 roundabout take the second exit, continue on the A1016 to the A414 roundabout, and take the second exit onto the A414 to rejoin the A12 at Junction 15 (Webb’s Farm Interchange).
Drivers must follow the road diversion signs carefully, as there is currently no official diversion symbol displayed on this route.
National Highways has issued a warning to road users to expect long delays and advised those who can to delay their journeys or seek alternative routes to avoid the congestion.
A spokesperson said, “We’re working closely with emergency services to manage the scene and will reopen the road as soon as it’s safe to do so.”
