West Mercia Police have made 14 arrests and confiscated 27 electronic devices in a nationwide blitz targeting child abuse. The force executed 20 warrants across Worcestershire, Shropshire, and Telford as part of a National Crime Agency operation.
The raid focused on individuals involved in grooming and viewing disturbing indecent images of children. Evidence uncovered at several homes revealed suspects engaged in viewing indecent child images and attempting to groom youngsters online. This weeklong sweep highlights the scale of the issue facing the region.
West Mercia Police reported a staggering 65% rise in child abuse referrals from 2024 to 2025. Detective Inspector Joanne Mayo-Evans from the cyber online child exploitation team said, “Our utmost focus is on protecting and safeguarding children. This week has brought to the forefront the unseen work we do every week and many children are now safer as a result of it.”
She added, “We will relentlessly pursue those who cause harm to children and bring them to justice through the courts.”
The investigation featured the deployment of a mobile digital forensics van to various locations and the use of a specially trained police dog skilled in tracking digital devices. Officers also held training sessions, teaching professionals and parents to spot early warning signs of exploitation and take swift action.
