Tram Driver Sprayed with Suspected Acid in Shocking Attack

Police are on the hunt for four youths caught on camera after a tram driver in Nottingham was sprayed in the face with a suspected corrosive chemical. The terrifying assault took place as the driver was finishing his shift in Hyson Green.

Attack Happens at Final Stop

The horrifying incident occurred around 8pm on 5 February 2026. The driver had just announced the last stop at Shipstone Street and pulled into the depot. As he stepped out of the tram cabin, someone sprayed a bottle of what police believe is a corrosive cleaning fluid straight into his eye.

Thankfully, the driver only suffered soreness and discomfort and avoided any lasting injuries.

Police Release CCTV Images of Suspects

Nottinghamshire Police have combed through CCTV footage and published images of four youths they want to identify. Officers believe these young suspects hold key information to solving the case.

“The victim is very lucky not to have been left with worse injuries to his skin and eyesight,” said Police Constable Rob Garvey. “We urge anyone who recognises these youths to come forward and help our investigation.”
