Three hurt as car ploughs into pedestrians in Blackpool – all now discharged

Three women injured when a speeding car smashed into pedestrians in Blackpool have now been released from hospital. The terrifying incident unfolded just before midnight on Saturday, April 14th, in the busy Talbot Square area.

Victims’ Injuries Revealed

  • One woman in her 80s suffered a broken collarbone.
  • Another, aged in her 70s, sustained a sprained ankle plus cuts and bruises to her legs.
  • A woman in her 30s escaped with a broken tooth, a swollen jaw, and bruises on her legs.

All three were treated at Blackpool Victoria Hospital but have now been discharged.

Driver Arrested After High-Speed Hit

Police responded to reports of a grey Skoda estate tearing through the area without registration plates. The vehicle crashed into roadworks and several pedestrians. Armed officers quickly tracked down and recovered the car near the Norbreck Castle Hotel.

A 19-year-old man from West Yorkshire was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drink or drugs, causing grievous bodily harm, and dangerous driving. He remains in custody.

Police Appeal to Witnesses

Det Superintendent Ian Whitehead of Lancashire Constabulary said:

“This was a frightening incident in a busy Blackpool town centre at night. Three people were seriously hurt, and we believe others may have minor injuries. We urge anyone who was injured, no matter how minor, or anyone who saw what happened, to come forward.”

He added: “Thanks to the quick actions of our officers and town centre security, the vehicle was swiftly located and the driver arrested, keeping the public safe. Our thoughts remain with those injured as they recover.”
