Second Cop Under Investigation Over Manchester Airport Brawl

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has launched a criminal investigation into a second Greater Manchester Police officer involved in the violent clash at Manchester Airport on 23 July. This comes as outrage grows over the fact that the two men accused of assaulting officers have yet to face charges.

What’s Going Down with the Police Investigation?

The IOPC confirmed a second GMP officer is now under scrutiny for assault linked to the airport incident. The first officer was announced under investigation on 26 July. The new probe also looks into potential gross misconduct, focusing on alleged misuse of force and breaches of professional standards.

The IOPC stressed, “The serving of notices does not necessarily mean criminal charges or misconduct proceedings will follow. At the end of our investigation, we will decide whether to refer the case to the Crown Prosecution Service for a charging decision and decide whether the officer should face disciplinary proceedings.”

Attackers Still Free – Emergency Services Furious

Despite serious injuries to three officers, including a broken nose and head wounds, the two men behind the assault remain uncharged. Emergency service workers are fuming, demanding swift justice for their injured colleagues.

Official Reactions and What’s Next?

The IOPC’s Regional Director acknowledged the situation’s complexity and the public concern following the incident that left officers and members of the public injured.

“We are working hard to piece together all of the relevant events on that day,” the Director said. “Greater Manchester Police is separately investigating any criminal offences committed by members of the public during the altercation and arrests. These inquiries will run parallel, coordinated with the Crown Prosecution Service.”

The Greater Manchester Police Federation has not yet commented on the absence of charges against the alleged assailants, causing frustration within the law enforcement community.

The Call for Justice Continues

As investigations drag on, pressure mounts from police and the public demanding transparency and accountability on all sides. Many urge a thorough probe that swiftly holds both officers and attackers responsible.
