Two men were rushed to hospital with stab wounds after a violent brawl erupted in Manchester city centre in the early hours of Thursday.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) responded swiftly to reports of a group disturbance involving weapons at Piccadilly Gardens just after midnight. Upon arrival, officers found two men seriously injured and immediately launched an investigation.
To address the unrest, GMP activated a Section 60 order, which grants officers the authority to stop and search anyone in the designated area without suspicion. This order covers Piccadilly Gardens and surrounding locations including Trinity Way.
Inspector MacGregor stated: “There will be a significant presence of officers, particularly on foot patrol, in the city centre to ensure public safety. We urge anyone with information to come forward.”
Police are appealing to witnesses to provide information. If you saw anything related to the incident, please contact GMP on 101 quoting incident number 123. Members of the public are advised to stay safe and avoid the area while the investigation continues.
