Moped Thieves Snatch Phone from London Ambulance Cycle Paramedic Mid-Duty

In a brazen West End heist, three moped-riding crooks ripped a phone from the hand of London Ambulance Service cycle paramedic Kat McKenna while she was on the job. The 32-year-old was moments from answering an emergency call when the gang struck in Store Street.

Attack Shakes Paramedic on Duty

Kat was set to help an elderly man who had fallen down stairs when the muggers, all wearing helmets with black visors, swooped at 6.15pm on July 25. Despite her shock, Kat was unharmed but furious at being robbed of vital kit.

“I was really shocked. I could not believe that it happened and I was angry I couldn’t respond to the patient who needed my help.”

Moped Muggings: A Growing Threat

Kat has treated many victims hurt by similar moped attacks. She warns these criminals don’t just terrify Londoners—they put lives at risk on roads and pavements alike.

“Sadly this type of attack is common. They are hurting people; they are putting other people in danger on the roads and pavements but they are also a danger to themselves. I have been called out to, and treated, youths who have had accidents on their mopeds.”

Determined to Carry On

Undaunted, Kat was back at work the next day. “If I didn’t go back to work, they would win,” she said. “I want to keep doing my job which is caring for and treating people in London. I don’t feel unsafe on my bike in London. Most of the time people are so friendly and appreciative of the job we do.”

Paul Cook, Operations General Manager at London Ambulance Service, slammed the attack. “It is appalling for a paramedic to be targeted while on duty. We will work with the police to identify and prosecute those responsible.”

Police Appeal: Help Catch These Thieves

Anyone with information about the moped muggers is urged to contact Crimestoppers or call 101 immediately.
