A shocking incident occurred at Asda’s Imperial Retail Park in Gravesend, where an elderly man was knocked down from an escalator by a rogue shopping trolley.

On the evening of Friday 24 February 2023, between 6.20pm and 6.35pm, an 80-something man was ascending an escalator when an empty trolley was pushed from the top. The trolley struck him forcefully, causing him to fall to the ground floor.

The victim sustained head injuries and cuts on his hands. He later attended hospital as a precautionary measure.

Kent Police launched an urgent appeal for information following the incident. On Tuesday 21 March, four boys aged 12 and 13 were arrested and taken into custody in connection with the assault.

Police continue to seek witnesses to the event. Anyone with information is urged to contact Kent Police on 01474 366149, quoting reference 46/35856/23. Information can also be reported anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 or via their online form.
