Police rushed to Dagenham Heath tube station at 11:47pm on Friday, 5 May after reports of two groups brawling with machetes. The violent confrontation resulted in an 18-year-old man being fatally stabbed.
Officers and the London Ambulance Service arrived at the scene to find the young man suffering from stab wounds. Despite their best efforts to save him, he died at the scene. A second man was also stabbed but is in a non-life-threatening condition. The victim’s family have been informed, and a post-mortem examination will be conducted in due course.
The Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Command has launched a murder investigation following the incident. A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.
Detective Chief Inspector James Shirley said: “My thoughts are with the young man’s family and friends. We are determined to bring the person or people responsible to justice.”
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information. They have urged the public to check dash cams or doorbell footage for any suspicious activity around the time of the attack.
