Officers from Newark and Sherwood’s Operation Reacher spotted a speeding car during patrol in Newark. Despite flashing blue lights, the driver ignored police commands and accelerated. The reckless driver clipped a roundabout at speed before losing control and crashing into a garden fence on Byron Close.
The incident occurred around 7.45pm on Sunday, 26 February. Police quickly detained the two occupants of the vehicle. A search of the car uncovered suspected Class A drugs, two knives, and a hammer.
The men, aged 29 and 22, were arrested on multiple charges including dangerous driving, possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, possession of offensive weapons, failing to stop for police, and driving without a licence or insurance.
Sergeant Adam Wells of Nottinghamshire Police commented, “There is absolutely no excuse for anyone to drive in a manner that puts others at risk on our roads. Thankfully, no one was hurt, though the car did collide with a garden fence. Thanks to our Operation Reacher team, we seized drugs and weapons once the vehicle stopped.
“We have arrested two suspects, but our inquiries continue. We urge anyone with information to get in touch.”
