Firefighters scrambled to tackle a fierce blaze at the derelict Parkbury Hotel in Sandown this evening. Thick smoke poured from the roof as crews battled the flames.

Massive Response Across the Island

  • Four fire engines from Sandown, Ryde, and Newport rushed to the scene.
  • Senior officers and the Newport Aerial Ladder Platform were also deployed.
  • Additional support arrived from East Cowes, Cowes, and Southampton to protect the wider area.
  • About 30 firefighters armed with main jets, hose reel jets, and breathing apparatus worked tirelessly.

Roads Closed as Emergency Works

Police shut down The Broadway in both directions to keep the public safe. The Aerial Ladder Platform took position on Winchester Park Road while other engines circled the former hotel.

Ambulance Crew on Scene as Firefighters Fight for Hours

The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service was also called in, alongside an operational commander, ensuring medical support was on standby.

Emergency teams continue to battle the blaze at the old Sandown hotel, as the cause remains unknown.
