A key road in Shirley remains closed this morning following a serious collision on Shirley High Street. Police have shut the street in both directions between Howard’s Grove and 1 Road.
Motorists are urged to avoid the area and seek alternative routes while emergency services manage the scene.
Four fire crews from St Mary’s and another station are present, using specialist cutting equipment to free a woman trapped inside a vehicle.
Police officers and South Central Ambulance paramedics are attending the incident and providing treatment to the female driver at the scene.
The crash occurred right outside The Cake Lady shop on Shirley Road. A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police stated: “One female was extracted from the vehicle with minor injuries. Part of our investigation is looking into whether excess speed was a factor.”
