Whitstable on Alert: Police Crackdown on Beach Night Chaos This Weekend

Kent Police are deploying tough new powers in Whitstable this weekend to stamp out rising anti-social behaviour and beach disturbances.

Rising Trouble on Whitstable Beaches and Streets

In recent weeks, officers have been swamped with reports of rowdy crowds causing havoc along the town’s seafront and streets during evenings and weekends.

On Friday 31 July, a 21-year-old local man was arrested and cautioned for assault and public order offences after a spate of nuisance incidents.

48-Hour Dispersal Order to Clear the Troublemakers

From 4pm Friday 7 August, a dispersal order will cover most of Whitstable — including Harbour Street, Old Bridge Road, Cromwell Road, the seafront, harbour, and Tankerton Slopes — for 48 hours.

The order gives police power to force anyone causing, or likely to cause, harassment, alarm or distress to leave the area. Those who defy the ban and return within 24 hours face arrest.

Police Warn: Enjoy Whitstable, But Crime Won’t Be Tolerated

“When anti-social behaviour affects a community, our approach varies but dispersal orders are used when truly needed,” said Canterbury Community Safety Inspector Guy Thompson.

“We work with partners to tackle root causes and find long-term solutions. People can enjoy the seaside, but officers will act against anyone committing crimes.”

Thompson urged residents, parents, and guardians to keep reporting incidents to 101 (or 999 if a crime is in progress), praising local support in helping police keep Whitstable safe.
