Sussex Police have confirmed zero arrests during Sunday’s protest outside Crowborough Training Camp in East Sussex. Officers stayed vigilant to keep the peace amid local fury over housing asylum seekers at the former military site.

Sunday Calm After Saturday Chaos

While Sunday’s protest passed without incident, three people arrested on Saturday remain on bail, facing charges under Section 4A of the Public Order Act for “intentional harassment, alarm, or distress.”

Crowborough Camp Sparks Outcry

The government confirmed asylum seekers have begun moving into Crowborough Training Camp, with up to 540 men expected to be housed there. Locals fear the strain on community services, security risks, and the impact on their town.

Previous protests drew hundreds, waving England and Union flags at the camp gates and town centre. Police say most protesters have remained peaceful despite tensions.

Police Vow Ongoing Presence

Chief Superintendent James Collis thanked the public for their patience and cooperation.

“I would like to thank the public at the protest and those affected by the protest for their patience and understanding throughout today, as it ensures we are able to keep everyone safe.”

He confirmed an increased police presence will stay in place for weeks to reassure residents and offer a clear contact point.

“Our police presence has been increased in Crowborough and the surrounding area to provide a clear point of contact for the public for engagement and reassurance. This presence will continue over the coming weeks.”

Home Office Holds The Reins

Sussex Police reminded locals the Home Office manages security and welfare at the camp. Anyone with concerns about the site itself should contact the Home Office directly.

Police are working with partner agencies to support Crowborough’s community. Residents worried about the situation are encouraged to speak to neighbourhood officers or visit their local police station.
