Suspicious incident sparks alarm outside Aldi

Police confirmed they have launched an investigation following a complaint from a mother whose 1-year-old daughter was targeted outside Aldi on Gamble Road.

The incident happened around 12.25pm on Monday 17 July. CCTV footage from the store has been reviewed and statements taken from witnesses and staff.

Mother confronts woman trying to beckon her toddler

The mother told officers that while collecting a trolley, a woman approached and spoke to her child, appearing to try and lure the little girl away.

“I challenged her straight away and she quickly left,” the mum said. The woman got into a nearby silver car, which then sped off.

Description of suspect released

The woman is described as Pakistani, in her 40s, with a round build, wearing a nose ring, dark blue sari, and a head dress.

Police have spoken with the mother and are continuing enquiries to get to the bottom of exactly what happened.
