Zoo Tragedy: Zookeeper Killed by Tiger at Cambridgeshire Park
Police have launched a probe into the shocking death of Rosa King, 34, who was mauled by a tiger at Hamerton Zoo Park in Cambridgeshire on Monday morning.
Investigation U-Turn
Initially, cops said Ms King’s death was “non suspicious” and closed their inquiry. But by Tuesday afternoon, Cambridgeshire Police reversed course, announcing a joint investigation with Huntingdonshire District Council.
A force spokesperson wouldn’t explain the sudden change. Meanwhile, the zoo confirmed they are “fully cooperating” with officials.
Tragic Scene at the Zoo
Witness Peter Davis, who was at the zoo with his child during the horror, described the chaos: “We were ushered away but could see keepers distressed, heads in their hands. Some were throwing meat into the enclosure trying to distract the tiger — it went on for 10 to 15 minutes.”
Remembering Rosa King
Ms King, believed to be from Chippenham, dedicated 14 years to the zoo. Her mother Andrea paid tribute, saying, “She wouldn’t have done anything else, it’s what she always did.”
The Tiger Still at Large
Despite the fatal attack, police confirmed the tiger was unharmed and remains at the zoo. In a statement, Hamerton Zoo called it a “freak accident” and assured the public no animals escaped or were a danger to visitors.
Floral tributes have been left at the zoo in memory of the fallen keeper.
