Just before dawn on Monday 9 May, a fire broke out on Anchor Street in Oldham, destroying four parked cars. CCTV footage shows a figure, believed to be a man, walking down the street around 5am, shortly before the blaze started.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) are treating the incident as deliberate arson. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the fire.

“This was a deliberate act that fortunately didn’t result in any injuries,” confirmed PC Sarah Holland from GMP’s Oldham district.

Police have not made any arrests yet and are actively searching for the suspect seen on the CCTV footage.

Officers are urging anyone who recognises the person in the footage or who was in the area at the time to come forward with information.

“We are keen to speak to the person in the CCTV or anyone who was in the area at the time who may have some information,” said PC Holland.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting incident 517 of 09/05/2022. Tips can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
