Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit has launched a murder investigation after a man in his fifties was found dead inside a home in Barton, Oxford.
Officers were called at around 11:30am on Monday, April 24, following concerns for the man’s welfare at an address in Brome Place. Tragically, he was discovered inside the property with serious head and facial injuries.
It later emerged that the man had been assaulted the previous evening near Underhill Circus shops. He was taken home by friends but did not seek medical help or report the attack.
Detective Inspector Mike Roddy said: “We believe the victim was assaulted around 9:30pm on Saturday by an unknown man and woman outside Barton shops and knocked to the floor.”
DI Roddy added: “We’re in the early stages of the investigation and keeping an open mind, but urge locals not to speculate. No arrests have been made yet, but there is an increased police presence in Barton and at Brome Place.”
Police are appealing for anyone who saw the incident between 8:30pm and 10pm on Saturday to come forward. You can report information online or call Thames Valley Police on 101, quoting incident reference 858 of 24 April. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family, who have been notified and are being supported by trained officers,” DI Roddy said.
