Police are actively searching for two masked men following a brutal attack on a man in his late sixties in Newark Market Square. The victim was pushed to the ground and then kicked in the head during the assault, which occurred in broad daylight.
The incident happened shortly after a masked cyclist nearly collided with the victim on Church Street. The attacker was wearing a black and grey hoodie beneath a balaclava and was riding a bicycle. He was accompanied by another man, also masked and dressed in a dark grey tracksuit.
The two suspects fled the scene after the attack, which took place around 3.40pm on Friday 25 October 2024. Police have released images related to the case and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
Sergeant Greg Saxelby of Nottinghamshire Police condemned the violent behaviour, stating: “The level of aggression shown in this incident was completely unacceptable and simply won’t be tolerated here in Newark and Sherwood.”
He added, “Thankfully, the victim wasn’t seriously hurt despite being pushed over and kicked.”
Authorities are appealing for witnesses or anyone who recognises the suspects to contact them immediately. If you have any information, please call the police on 101 quoting incident number 440 of 25 October 2024, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
