New COVID Fraud Hotline Launched to Nab Thieving Scammers

The government has teamed up with independent charity Crimestoppers to launch a new COVID Fraud Hotline. Anyone can now call 0800 587 5030 completely free and anonymously to report dodgy claims and scams.

Scumbags Exploit COVID Support Cash

Over 150 government schemes have been rolled out to help those struggling financially during the pandemic. But a shady minority have been gaming the system, claiming cash they don’t deserve.

Cabinet Office Minister Julia Lopez slammed the fraudsters:

“Many people work hard to pay their taxes, so it’s a gross injustice that fraudsters are shamefully taking advantage of measures set up to help during the lockdown.

We cannot let criminals profit from the COVID crisis, as every pound stolen could be spent on vital public services. That’s why we urge the public to report suspicious activity to the Crimestoppers COVID Fraud Hotline.”

How You Can Help Crush COVID Fraud

Crimestoppers Chief Exec Mark Hallas OBE added:

“Fraud against the public purse steals funds that benefit us all. It’s crucial anyone with info on fraudulent claims contacts us anonymously.”

The hotline is open 24/7, 365 days a year at 0800 587 5030. Or you can use their secure online form at Covidfraudhotline.org.

You’ll be doing your bit to protect taxpayer cash from crooks.

Watch Out for These Red Flags

  • Unusual buying patterns by companies or individuals
  • Cold calls from people falsely claiming to be from the government offering scheme money

Fraud can be tricky to spot, but the public’s sharp eyes can make all the difference in catching cheats and protecting vital services like hospitals and schools.
