Chaos erupted at Cobham Motorway Services on the M25 on Monday afternoon after a man was savagely attacked with a shovel. Police quickly shut down the busy service station following the violent assault.
The attack occurred just after 3.20pm near junction 9 Leatherhead and junction 10 A3. Two men reportedly assaulted the victim before fleeing the scene in a works van, leaving the man collapsed on the floor with severe head injuries.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene. An ambulance and air ambulance landed at around 3.30pm. The victim was taken to St George’s Hospital in Tooting, where he is currently fighting for his life.
“The man was on the floor in a heap and he looked pretty bad. The air ambulance and medics were working on him for a long time,” a witness said.
Police locked down the entire service area, including the Shell petrol station, which remains closed with no fuel available. Staff were evacuated through a back exit as officers searched the scene.
Scene of crime teams examined a blue Ford Focus and conducted a fingertip sweep of the area. Authorities have not yet confirmed any arrests.
A Surrey Police spokesperson said: “We are in attendance following a call about a man with serious injuries. The rest of the services remain fully open. Anyone with information should contact 101 quoting reference P17159125.”
The violent attack has left local residents shaken. Eyewitnesses described the incident as quick and terrifying. Police and ambulance crews continue their urgent work at the scene.
