Police are investigating the sudden death of a man found inside a Southampton house this morning. Emergency services were called after a housemate discovered the man at a property on Highfield Lane.
Residents reported seeing a large emergency response, including four police cars, an ambulance, and a paramedic vehicle arriving at the scene. Paramedics reached the house, located at the corner of Highfield Lane and Heatherdeane Road, at 9:58am to attend to the man in his 20s.
Detectives have sealed off the property and removed several items as part of their ongoing investigation. The house, once lively with students, now remains dark with curtains drawn.
The owner of nearby Highfield News expressed shock over the incident. He said, “I was up all night, couldn’t sleep. Suddenly, police and ambulances arrived. I saw a private ambulance take a stretcher inside, then come out for a pillow, before removing someone covered by a white sheet.” Police stayed at the scene until lunchtime, attracting quiet attention from locals and customers.
Neighbours described the household as mainly students who generally caused no trouble. One resident said, “I see them coming and going; they seem a nice bunch.” Those living in the house declined to comment and appeared visibly upset by the events.
A spokesman for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious. Officers, alongside South Central Ambulance Service crews, responded to a welfare concern at the property.
He stated, “Officers found the body of a man in his late 20s. His next of kin have been informed. The coroner has been notified and has asked us to prepare a file.” The investigation is ongoing as the community comes to terms with the shocking incident.
