A man in his 60s has tragically died after suffering a cardiac arrest near Devizes School this morning.
At around 8.30am on Wednesday, emergency services were called to Southbroom Road after the man collapsed at Devizes Leisure Centre, located next to the secondary school.
As pupils arrived for school, teachers quickly brought them indoors to clear the area for paramedics and police officers attending the scene.
Despite the rapid response from two ambulance crews, critical care medics, the Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance, and police officers, the man was pronounced dead at the site.
A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said, “There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and our thoughts are with his family at this time.”
Devizes School reassured parents that there was no lockdown in place during the incident. They thanked everyone for their cooperation and emphasized the importance of keeping pavements clear for emergency vehicles.
A school spokesperson stated, “Please rest assured, at no point was school in a lockdown scenario this morning, however when an emergency situation arises outside school, we will always endeavour to bring children in as quickly as we can.”
