Man Detained Under Mental Health Act After Police Officer Stabbed in Basingstoke

A 43-year-old man, arrested for the attempted murder of a Hampshire police officer, has been released from custody but remains under investigation.

Officer Attacked During Welfare Check

The shocking stabbing happened on April 12 at around 4.30pm on 1 Way, Basingstoke. Officers were called to the address over a welfare concern. During the encounter, the suspect attacked a young officer in his 20s with two knives.

Serious Injuries and Recovery

The officer suffered wounds to his head, neck, and hands. He was rushed to hospital and discharged the following day, April 13. He is now recovering at home.

Suspect Held Under Mental Health Act

The 43-year-old was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder but has since been detained under Section 2 of the Mental Health Act. Police investigations are ongoing.
