Man Arrested After Shocking Online Threats Against Brighton’s Jewish Community
A man was hauled in by Sussex Police after terrifying social media posts called for attacks on Jewish shops and synagogues in Brighton and Hove. Cops raided a Newhaven address on Sunday amid reports of vile online threats targeting the local Jewish community.
Hate-Fuelled Posts Spark Furious Police Action
The hateful comments appeared under a post by the Brighton and Hove Palestine Solidarity Campaign. The posts urged people to bomb Jewish-owned shops with “stink bombs” and pelt synagogues with “ripe fruit and eggs.”
Four Charges Including Religious Hate and Drug Possession
The suspect faces four serious charges: sending offensive or menacing communications, stirring up religious hatred, threatening property damage, and possession of a Class B drug. He was released on bail as the investigation powers on.
Police and Community Leaders Hit Back Hard
“Threatening, hateful and antisemitic comments have a profound impact on the Jewish community and the wider public,” said Detective Chief Superintendent Richard McDonagh. “We will not tolerate threats of any kind. Anyone attempting to target people because of their faith should expect a firm and decisive response.”
The Brighton & Hove Palestine Solidarity Campaign condemned the racist remarks, insisting the offensive post was swiftly removed. They stressed the individual had no links to their group and reaffirmed their stance as an anti-racist organisation.
