Drug-fuelled rampage at Newport homeless hostel ends in arrest
A man went on a violent rampage at a homeless hostel in Newport, smashing up property and attacking staff before being arrested by police.
Drug-fuelled destruction and assault
The 22-year-old local showed up at the Salvation Army hostel on Pyle Street Tuesday night looking for refuge. But things quickly spiralled out of control. Witnesses said the man was clearly high, with “eyes like flying saucers,” before he lost it and began wrecking the place.
Staff tried to calm him down, but he lashed out, assaulting a member of staff in the process. An unnamed hostel user said: “There was no need for it.”
Police swoop and arrest
frightened staff called the cops just after 10.30pm. Officers arrived swiftly, chasing the man as he fled the building. They managed to stop and restrain him, conducting a search.
Hampshire Constabulary confirmed no one was seriously hurt in the chaos.
Charges and custody
