Surrey Police have launched a murder investigation following the death of a 20-year-old man who was assaulted at Cobham Services on the M25.
Officers responded to reports of a violent brawl at Cobham Services, located between junctions 9 and 10 of the M25, at 3.15pm on Monday 26 June. The fight involved two groups who knew each other.
The victim suffered serious head injuries during the attack, which was carried out by two men using a shovel. He was airlifted to St George’s Hospital but sadly died earlier today.
The suspects fled the scene in a white Peugeot Partner Van with the registration NX63 VLP. The van, which had a roof rack and ladder, was later found abandoned in Chessington and seized by police.
Detective Chief Inspector Jo Hayes urged anyone who was at the petrol station between 3pm and 3.30pm on 26 June to come forward. She said: “This was a horrifying attack at a busy petrol station on the M25. We believe many witnessed the incident but have yet to speak to police.”
She added: “We especially want to hear from a man seen in military or camouflage gear inside the store. Also, anyone who filmed the fight or drove onto the forecourt – your dashcam footage could be vital.”
Police are also seeking information from anyone who saw the white van between 3.30pm on 26 June and 10am today. Officers want to track the van’s movements and identify the driver.
Witnesses with mobile phone footage of the fight or its aftermath could hold key evidence for the investigation.
