Major Crash on A331 Near Farnborough: HGV and BMW Collide, Man Arrested
Emergency teams are battling to free trapped passengers after a serious smash on the A331 near Farnborough tonight. A silver BMW 320 Convertible crashed head-on with a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) just after 6.45pm on Saturday.
Rescue Operation Underway
Fire crews from both Surrey and Hampshire rushed to the scene, deploying cutting tools to free two people trapped inside the wrecked BMW. A land ambulance swiftly took one seriously injured person from the scene, while eyewitnesses reported seeing a police officer escorting another injured individual away.
Police from Surrey and Hampshire, along with twelve patrol cars and Highways England officers, have shut the northbound A331 at the Frimley junction. The southbound lane towards the M3 Junction is also closed, with screens put up on the eastbound carriageway to shield the crash site.
Chaos and Delays Hit Farnborough
Traffic is gridlocked with long tailbacks stretching from Farnborough Gate Retail Park. Drivers are warned to steer clear of the area, especially avoiding joining the A331 at Mytchett. The road is expected to stay closed until the early hours of Sunday as police carry out a full investigation.
Man Arrested Following Crash
Surrey Police have confirmed a man has been arrested in connection with the collision. The BMW’s male driver and female passenger suffered serious injuries. Officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forward, quoting Incident 782. Call 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously.
