Chaos was narrowly avoided at Brighton railway station on Tuesday evening after a man was spotted carrying what looked like a large knife. Eyewitnesses were left shaken as the suspect appeared to be armed with a “machete-sized” weapon.

Railway security staff acted fast, detaining the man and alerting British Transport Police (BTP) without delay. Witnesses said the blade was tucked into the suspect’s trousers, the handle clearly visible above his belt line.

“Officers were called to reports of a man with a knife at Brighton railway station just before 6.15pm on Tuesday (21 October). Officers attended and a 27-year-old man from Bexhill was arrested and taken to custody,” a BTP spokesperson said.

Thankfully, nobody was hurt. The tense scene caused only minor travel delays as police quickly took control of the situation.
