Man Dies After Late-Night Lewisham Burglary Turns Deadly

Detectives from the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating after a man was fatally stabbed during a burglary in Lewisham.

Burglary Sparks Violent Struggle

Just after midnight on Wednesday, April 4, a 78-year-old homeowner in South Park Crescent, Hither Green, woke to find two intruders inside his home. A violent struggle broke out between the homeowner and one of the burglars.

Man Stabbed and Collapsed on Nearby Road

The 37-year-old suspect was found collapsed on Further Green Road with a stab wound to his upper body. Emergency services rushed him to a central London hospital, but he was pronounced dead at 3:37am. Next of kin have been informed, and formal identification is awaited. A post-mortem will be arranged.

Homeowner Arrested, Second Suspect Still At Large

The homeowner suffered bruising to his arms but is not seriously injured. He was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, then later arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody at a south London police station.

The second burglar fled before police arrived and is still wanted. The Met’s Major Crime Command is urging anyone with information to come forward.
