Elsewhere, firefighters race to an East London block of flats reduced to rubble by a massive explosion. They crawl through smoke and searing heat, wearing breathing apparatus, while searching for trapped residents. Helping them is Kirby, a six-year-old springer spaniel trained in rescue.

Meet Tami, one of 300-plus female firefighters balancing family life with night shifts. A mother of one, whose husband also serves at the same station, she rushes to a blazing coach on Westminster Bridge and a huge basement fire on fireworks night. Despite huge fire safety campaigns, the brigade faces a tense evening fighting flames that threaten an entire building with no nearby truck access.
The drama continues with a massive flood in Stoke Newington, where the high street becomes a river, and teams search flooded basements. Another daring rescue frees a nine-months-pregnant woman trapped in a car wreck.
