Kai McGinley, 24, has been identified as the man who was fatally shot in Erith on Thursday night. Police and paramedics responded to reports of gunfire on Pembroke Road just before 9pm. Forensics teams are still examining the scene today.

Witnesses reported that the shooting occurred after a high-speed chase involving a Mini Clubman and a Land Rover Freelander. The attackers, who were reportedly wearing balaclavas, rammed the Mini before surrounding it and firing two shots at Kai McGinley.

Kai was found with a gunshot wound in Hillside but tragically died at the scene despite the efforts of medics. Residents nearby heard up to seven shots and screams. One neighbour rushed to help, using towels to try to stop the bleeding.

Friends and family have expressed their heartbreak on social media. Messages on Kai’s Facebook profile included, “Rest in peace, my boy.” His girlfriend posted, “Tonight, my boyfriend died on the scene. Please give me some silence. If anyone knows anything, contact the police or me.” A cousin said, “I’m numb, I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. He felt more like a brother than a cousin.” Other mourners wrote, “Sleep well, my angel” and “Rest in beautiful and perfect peace, Kai.”

The gunman remains at large as police continue their investigation. Road closures remain in place in the area. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the police on 101 or tweet @MetCC with reference CAD7135/9Feb. Anonymous tips can also be given to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
