A tragic incident occurred on Hayling Island this morning when a 52-year-old man died after reportedly falling from his bicycle on the popular Billy Trail nature path.
Emergency services were alerted just before 10.40am following the discovery of the man and his bike in a wooded area.
A passing dog walker found the man lying on the ground and immediately raised the alarm, prompting a swift response from authorities.
Police quickly cordoned off the scene but have confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious.
The South Central Ambulance Service received the call at 10.39am and dispatched multiple units, including the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, a rapid response vehicle, ambulance crews, and emergency care teams.
Michelle Archer, a spokeswoman for the ambulance service, said: “They were assessing and treating the gentleman but sadly he was confirmed deceased at the scene. It is understood to be a cycling accident.”
A Hampshire police spokesperson added: “Officers were called at 10.51am following the sudden death of a 52-year-old man near Denhill Close on Hayling Island. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
