Body Found at Withernsea Beach Sparks Emotional Rescue Effort
Emergency crews and HM Coastguard faced brutal tides and harsh conditions to recover a body spotted among rocks at Withernsea beach near Holmpton Road. The grim find came early on Thursday morning (15 January 2026), but dangerous tides forced a halt to recovery efforts.
High Tides and Rough Terrain Stall Recovery
Detective Superintendent Simon Vickers revealed the body was located by police search teams at 8.30am, but the rising tide made immediate retrieval impossible. “The location was secured overnight using specialist equipment, and a cordon remains in place,” he confirmed.
Specialist teams returned on Friday (16 January 2026), scouring every inch to recover the body safely. Yet challenging tides and the rocky shoreline have forced another pause until conditions improve.
Possible Link to Missing Teen Grace Keeling
Police have not officially identified the body but admit it may be connected to 15-year-old Grace Keeling. The teen vanished after being swept into the sea on 2 January. Search teams have been tirelessly combing the area for nearly two weeks.
“We understand this update will cause concern. We have teams working hard to carry out the recovery as safely and quickly as possible,” Detective Superintendent Vickers said.
Authorities urge the public to respect Grace’s family’s privacy, avoid speculation, and steer clear of the scene to let emergency services work without disruption.
