Tragic End to Snowdonia Rescue: Two Young Climbers Found Dead
Two young men, aged 19 and 20, have tragically died on Snowdon after going missing earlier this week. The climbers set off for a walk on the iconic Welsh peak, locally known as Yr Wyddfa, but never returned. Their disappearance sparked a frantic search in treacherous conditions.
Heroic Rescue Teams Battle Brutal Winter Weather
Mountain rescue crews from Llanberis and Aberglaslyn, backed by RAF experts and coastguard helicopters, fought through fierce snow and ice to find the missing men. The all-night, multi-agency operation tested the limits of the rescuers as they combed the unforgiving terrain.
Jurgen Dissmann, Chair of Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team, said: “On behalf of Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team, I extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the two men who have sadly lost their lives. “The team was tasked by North Wales Police and launched a massive operation amid full winter conditions. Volunteers battled snow and ice, working long hours through the night to find the pair as quickly as possible. “Despite everyone’s tireless efforts, we are devastated the outcome was not what we hoped for. My sincere thanks go to Aberglaslyn Mountain Rescue Team, RAF Mountain Rescue Team, SARDA, and HM Coastguard for their crucial support.
Police Confirm Bodies Recovered and Identified
North Wales Police confirmed the bodies have been found and formally identified. The families have been informed, and a coroner has been notified.
“Concerns for the welfare of the men were raised on Wednesday, 18 February,” the police statement read. “Tragically, both bodies were located and recovered during the coordinated search efforts. We ask for privacy for the families at this difficult time.”
