Berlin Greens Slam Refugee Mass Housing, Push to Scatter Migrants Across City – Costs Soar!

Greens Target Refugee Shelters: Want Dispersed Flats Across Berlin

The Berlin Greens are gunning to ditch cramped refugee mass housing and replace it with smaller, spread-out flats across every city district. Their new manifesto blasts the current system of huge overcrowded shelters hosting most of Berlin’s 37,592 registered refugees. Instead, they want a “social housing programme” to scatter refugees more evenly.

But here’s the shocker: Berlin already pours €2.1 billion a year into migrants, with housing expenses tripling to €1 billion in just four years. As asylum centres burst at the seams, the Greens still want to boost refugee intake.

Welcome Climate Refugees, Gaza and Afghan Newcomers

The Greens broaden Berlin’s refugee definition to include climate disaster victims. Green state chief Philmon Ghirmai declared: “This will be our government policy. We also want to reintroduce the admission of people affected by climate disasters.” With 86 million climate crisis refugees worldwide, Berlin’s numbers could soar.

On top of that, they want exclusive reception programmes for migrants from Gaza and Afghanistan – despite tough integration records. Around 30,000 Palestinians already live in Berlin. The party aims to revive Afghan admission schemes and extend them to Gaza.

Deportation Freeze and Surging Migrant Crime Rates Under Fire

The Greens want to halt deportations for 20,000 people in Berlin and oppose sending anyone back to Syria, Iran, or Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Berlin’s 2024 crime figures are worrying. Migrants were linked to 43.9% of crimes citywide, with murders and manslaughters soaring over 50% in a year. The spike fuels heated debate over safety and migrant integration.

Election Tensions: Can Greens Turn Bold Refugee Plans into Reality?

Berlin votes on 20 September. The Greens lag at 16%, behind CDU, Left, and AfD. Yet a red-red-green coalition could still form. If it does, the Greens’ refugee and climate migration agenda might shape city policy—just as costs climb and public concern grows.
