Massive Meth Haul Bust in Hong Kong Saves Australia Millions
Hong Kong customs have smashed a massive drug trafficking attempt, uncovering HK$46 million (£4.8m) worth of meth hidden inside a shipment of electrical transformers. The haul, worth an eye-watering AUD$9.4 million at source, could have hit AUD$68 million on Aussie streets if it made it to western Sydney.
From Mexico to Blacktown: How the Meth Plot Unfolded
The shipment originated all the way from Mexico, bound for an address in Blacktown, Sydney’s western suburb. Thanks to tip-offs from the Australian Federal Police (AFP), Australian Border Force (ABF), and Department of Home Affairs, the illicit cargo was intercepted before it could land.
Authorities Hunt Those Behind the International Drug Ring
Detective Superintendent Timothy Underhill praised the teamwork, saying, “This seizure is a great example of our international partners working together to combat the movement of illicit drugs across international borders.” He added the AFP is now chasing every lead and is keen to talk to anyone in Australia with info.

ABF Superintendent Scott Mann, stationed in Hong Kong, said the bust highlights the power of joint-agency action. “This is a huge amount of meth that would have caused serious harm in Australia,” he said. “We can only achieve these results by working closely with our local, national and international partners.”
