Kimberley Ann Hawkins, 41, has been charged with the murder of 63-year-old Neil Shadwick following the theft of his mobility scooter at a Tesco car park in Gloucestershire.
Neil Shadwick, who suffered from Parkinson’s disease, died after his mobility scooter was stolen from him in January 2023. The incident took place at the Tesco car park on Stratford Road in Stroud.
Mr Shadwick was found unresponsive by Tesco staff at around 6am. At the time, temperatures had dropped to a freezing minus four degrees. Despite emergency medical efforts, he later died from a stroke at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.
The stolen mobility scooter was later found abandoned on Bisley Old Road in Stroud. Kimberley Ann Hawkins was previously charged with aggravated vehicle taking in relation to the same case at Gloucester Crown Court.
Gloucestershire Police have confirmed that Hawkins will appear at Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court on May 15. The case has deeply affected the local community, drawing attention to the vulnerability of individuals who rely on mobility aids.
Police stated, “The family and friends of Neil Shadwick are seeking answers and justice. This has been a devastating loss.”
