Winchester Woman Jailed for Stealing Thousands from Vulnerable Adults
Jane Raymond, 48, from Winchester, has been sentenced to 14 months behind bars for stealing from vulnerable adults with learning difficulties. The former care worker admitted two counts of theft at Winchester Crown Court on Friday.
Ex-Care Worker Preys on Vulnerable
Between 2008 and 2014, when she was known as Jane Rogers, Raymond worked as a support worker for Mencap and Affinity Trust in the Alton area. She exploited her position, stealing money from those she was employed to support.
Raymond used the victims’ bank cards to withdraw cash and buy items for herself. One victim, a 40-year-old man from Alton, lost a staggering £13,467. The theft nearly saw him evicted from his home.
Judge Sends a Clear Message
Raymond received concurrent sentences of 14 months for each offence, ensuring she serves the time simultaneously.
“Raymond was targeting people who relied on her for support. By taking advantage of vulnerable adults she abused her position of trust and showed total disregard for their welfare,” said Detective Constable Andy Spooner.
“I welcome the sentence which is a clear message to those that are tempted to commit this type of crime. Raymond’s victims will no doubt also have been given the closure they need.”
